Memorial Day Weekend

We took a quick little road trip for Memorial Day Weekend
We toured the LBJ ranch and historical park and had a great time learning about his life and his time as president. We learned he spent 25% of his presidency here in Texas on his ranch and his home there was referred to as the Texas White House.
Chasing the chickens
Lots of pictures...
Brayden did the junior ranger program at the park. Here he is saying the junior ranger pledge that he will help the park rangers protect national historical sites and parks... it was pretty cute!
Showing off his cool new badge
The ranch had fields of wildflowers that were really pretty. I've decided living in the country would be kind of nice. It was so peaceful out there and it really nice to just be away from everything. We had a great time and I'm glad we got to see this part of Texas before we moved!
Later, we saw this huge moving dinosaur on the side of the road so we stopped for the boys. They loved it, especially because the T-Rex moved and roared. I'm pretty sure Tyler thought it was real and it pretty much freaked him out in the end. I don't blame him!
We stopped to see Enchanted Rock in Hill Country but didn't climb it because both the boys fell asleep in the car and we weren't about to carry them both up that! Especially since it was like 95 degrees!

It was funny on our drive leaving Hill Country, we were on this 2 lane highway and we kept seeing these long black things going across the road. Guy and I could not figure out what they were but seriously every 30 seconds we saw another one and it was kind of creeping us out because they were so big. We decided we wanted to try to stop so we could see up close what they were. So we would both look for one and then Guy would try to stop the car in time to get out and see it...it was pretty funny how many times it took us to stop in time cause we always kept passing them. But finally we did and they turned out to be these huge black, furry caterpillars. Caterpillars are usually one of the few bugs I like but seriously these ones grossed me out! I guess it's true, everything really is bigger in Texas...even the caterpillars! Yuck!
Our discovery of the trip was that the best way to keep Ty happy in the car was to give him a cup of sonic ice to munch on. This kid loves ice! He is getting a mouthful of molars in right now all at once so I'm sure it felt good on those gums!
