We are SO in love with our little Halloween baby, Ryan!
Just a few minutes old
I'm so grateful my mom was there to see him right after he was born. It was so special!
Ty was not sure what to think about his new brother. We kept asking him if he wanted to see him or hold him and he kept saying "Nope!" It was pretty funny!
Brayden loved to hold him though :)
Ready to go home
And now for my crazy birth story......
I spent all day Halloween feeling no steady contractions at all. Brayden had school so I took him in the morning and Ty and I just hung out at home all day. I picked him up from school at 3:50 and called my mom, who was sitting at the airport with a layover, on her way here. She was flying to Tampa to watch my boys for when I went into labor. So we chatted on the phone and made plans to go shopping the next day. And I told her I didn't think this baby was going to come on his own, blah blah blah.
Well I got off the phone with my mom and started getting the boys ready for trick or treating that night. The plan was Guy was going to come home from work and then we were going to take them around our neighborhood. Right before he got home I started feeling some contractions and seriously it was like they were almost instantly intense and regular. Guy got home from work and I told him about them and that maybe we wouldn't be going trick or treating after all. I kept trying to ignore them (haha) because I REALLY wanted to take the boys trick or treating, but after like 10 minutes I knew this was the real deal and I had to get to the hospital. We were not prepared at all for this (my due date was Nov. 9) and were rushing around like crazy people. Yes, I felt like this whole night was how they portray labor in the movies. Guy was hilarious! It's actually quite funny now, but ya not so much then!
So the problem was my mom was on the airplane on her way here and everyone we knew was out with their families doing Halloween stuff. Luckily we got ahold of Brayden's friend Michael from school and he was able to trick or treat with him and stay at his house until we could pick him up later that night. But we didn't have time to find anyone to watch Ty so we just took him to the hospital with us, costume and all. We called our home teachers on the way and they came and got him from the hospital before I delivered.
The hospital I delivered at was all the way in Tampa so it took us awhile to get there and Guy drove like a crazy person, which I encouraged for once. I have seriously never had such crazy intense contractions as I did this time around. We got to the hospital and went to the desk and I told the guy there that I was in labor. He told me I needed to sign in and someone would come get me because no one could walk back into L&D unsupervised I guess. It seriously took almost 10 minutes for someone to come get me and I pretty much thought I was going to have the baby right there. It was awful. Let me just say that I hated the hospital I delivered at for this and soo many other reasons.
Anyways, I went back finally and they checked me and told me I was indeed in labor (duh) and got me to a room. It took forever! All I kept saying was I wanted an epidural, but apparently the hospital was packed that night with women in labor so the anesthesiologists were backed up and couldn't get to my room until they were done with other patients. Halloween was a popular night to go into labor! So I waited for another 10 minutes and finally they came in and I got my wonderful epidural. BUT no one even checked me right before I got it. I think I was already at a 10 because after I got it I knew the baby was coming right then and there. So i didn't have time to let the epidural kick in and discovered that I was about to have a baby all natural. Let me just say I was SOOO not prepared for that. Epidurals are my friends and the only reason I choose to have babies!!! It was rather intense and my nurse kept telling me to not push so I could give the epidural time to kick in. Um ya, it's pretty impossible not to push when the baby is about to come out!
The doctor came in though and in just a few pushes our sweet little boy was born. It was such a special moment to meet him for the first time and such a relief to see that he was healthy and strong. I had a rough pregnancy with some health problems and I just constantly worried about him in there and if he was doing ok. The doctor and nurses left and Guy and I were able to spend some time alone, just the three of us. It was a moment I will never forget as we got to know our 3rd little boy straight from heaven.
He is my smallest baby (Brayden was 8 lbs 1 oz and Ty was 8 lbs 4 oz) and I think he looks really similar to Brayden as a baby...I'll have to post some pictures later.
My mom's airplane landed and she was shocked that I just had my baby since we had just talked a few hours earlier and I had no signs of labor at all. The airport was pretty close to the hospital so she took a taxi over and she got to hold her 3rd grandson right after he was born. It was really special for me to have her there since she has always come in the past after my boys were born and I was home from the hospital. Brady and Ty came to visit the next day and it was cute to see them with their new brother. Ty wanted nothing to do with him at all and really just pretended that the little bundle in the blanket was not there at all. It took him a little while to warm up to the idea! BB loved to hold him from the start and was so sweet with his younger brother.
I was group b strep positive and because my labor was so fast (like an hour after I got to the hospital, 3 hours after contractions started), I wasn't able to get any antibiotics in me in time before I delivered. So it meant we had to stay in the hospital for a full 48 hours after he was born so they could monitor him. I was so ready to go home in the morning on November 2, but we couldn't leave until 9:19 pm and they were really strict about it. I was going so stir crazy all day so it was nice when we could finally leave and I could go home and relax!
We are just soooo in love with this little guy. He fits into our family perfectly and we already can't imagine life without him. I am so grateful to be a mom to 3 boys now!
