Bits of April

The boys made a pet shop in their room for us to visit. It was pretty cute!

More snow in April. Colorado is Bipolar when it comes to weather! One day it's warm and sunny and then a few days later the ground is covered in snow. We don't mind though cause we know it doesn't last long and usually the sun is shining the next day. My boys love snow!

BB is into making paper airplanes these days. This is his huge one that he taped a bunch of pieces of paper together to make. It actually flew pretty good down the stairs!

 Ty is so funny. He is always asking me to take pictures of him with various clothes or objects :)

BB tagged along with guy to a youth activity at church to meet the olympic volleyball player Ryan Millar.  His brother is in our ward so he came to speak to the youth. The U.S. won gold at Beijing in 2008 so they got to check out his medal.

Ty Plays Soccer

We signed Ty up for 4 year old soccer this spring on the Real Cubbies teams.  It's definitely just for fun and not serious at all, considering most of the kids are distracted the whole time anyway. We've found it quite hilarious to watch. At one point in the game, the boys kicked the ball over to the field next to them and continued to play over there with another team playing their game.  And halfway through, half of them decided they wanted to stay on the sidelines and play in the grass instead of soccer. They don't quite understand why they don't always get the ball! Tyler only played one game, he has mostly refused to play so it's been a bit of a battle. Maybe when he's a little bit older!

Jason leaves for El Salvador

We were able to go down to UT and spend time with my brother Jason before he left on his mission to El Salvador.  I'm so glad we were able to go and say goodbye. It just seems so crazy that he will be gone for 2 whole years, but I am SO proud of him for choosing to go.

 He will go to the MTC in Guatemala before he heads to El Salvador and I am excited for him and all the experiences he is going to have. I am so grateful he is my brother and for the example he is setting for me and for my little boys. He's the first missionary that they really know who is out serving so it's a neat experience to be able to talk to them about it and to hear them praying for Jason all on their own.  In fact, the other night when BB and Ty were supposed to be going to sleep I heard them in their room playing missionaries with each other. So cute huh!

We tried out some food from El Salvador at a restaurant in Provo so we could get an idea of what Jason would be eating the next 2 years.

It was really special to be there when Jason got set apart as a missionary. The spirit was so strong!

I made my parents a life size Jason to have around the house while he is gone so he can still "be there" for holidays and family events.  I just found a George Bush cutout and then glued on a missionary tag and Jason's face. It turned out pretty funny but my parent's dog Eddie HATES it. He barks like crazy every time he see's it.  Hopefully that doesn't affect how he feels about Jason in 2 years!!

We had some fun with it before we left, hiding it behind doors in bathrooms and in other places trying to scare each other. It was awesome!

After Jason left, we had a dramatic drive back to Colorado.  It was memorable, to say the least. Who would have known that the middle of April there would be a huge snowstorm?  Well it was a crazy storm and we got stuck in it on the way home.  Literally stuck in the middle of the freeway in the mountains! We had just passed Vail and Dillon when there was a big hill up ahead and as we got closer we saw 2 semi's stuck already. So we had to slow down and stop and when we did we got stuck. We bought our van in Florida and they don't even sell 4 wheel drive cars in Florida so it stinks now that we are out west and we need it.

 Anyway, cars were stuck everywhere around us and then crazy people who could get through the snow there just started weaving in and out to pass the pile up. I'm just glad we didn't get hit! There was a point we were in between 2 semis...ya it was insane and I was freaking out. I have also never in my whole marriage seen Guy so stressed out as he was that day! Finally a bunch of tow trucks started coming down and pulling people out and towing them to the tunnel so we got lucky.  My boys loved it and they just wished we could have been the car that was on top of the truck. We were towed behind it.

 We were glad to make it home safe and now we just need to figure out if we need to get a new car before next winter which totally stinks!
